Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to contribute for the composition of a social and cultural history of fishing in the village of Manguinhos, a small coastal town situated in the county of Serra (ES), Brazil. Associated with this fishing culture, we will analyze aspects of a popular religiosity linked to Congo, na artistic and religious manifestation characteristic of the region. The construction of the most relevant scenes of this "fishing history" will be guided by one of its main protagonists: the fisherman Antonio Bino, a famous fishing master of the region, whose testimonies were recorded in an ethnographic study conducted between the 1970s and 1980s. In a second moment, we will present a brief analysis of the condition of the village of Manguinhos in the contemporaneity, when the territories of the fishing work became relegated to the background, due to the intense urban and social transformations brought by the mass tourism that has been established in the region since the end of the 1980s.
