In this article, I analyze the case of a minority language, the Mirandese language, and the linguistic policies, as well as the initiatives of intellectuals and researchers, that serve to protect and revitalize it. In the article, I present a brief history of the Mirandese language based on José Leite de Vasconcelos' description. I point out that the existence of four languages in Portugal has been known since the end of the 19th century. Next, I give a brief description of the current situation of the Mirandese language in Portugal. Next, I define language policy(ies) and present those that have been used over the years to “regulate and influence the use and status” (Ferreira, 2024, p. 245) of Mirandese in social and institutional contexts. I emphasize the role of agents in the construction of language policies aimed at revitalizing Mirandese. It is important to note that the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages, although signed, is still awaiting ratification by Portuguese leaders.
