Purpose: This article aimed to analyze the dynamics of innovation in the Family Health Strategy (FHS). Methodology/Approach: This is a theoretical essay in which institutional and scientific references from national and foreign literature were gathered and analyzed that deal with innovation in the public sector and about innovation in public health. Results: In order to achieve the research objective, a framework was created that represents the dynamics of innovation in the Family Health Strategy, composed of the dimensions: innovation, determinants and barriers of innovation, actors and results of innovation. Academic contributions: From a theoretical point of view, research has the potential to contribute to advancing the theoretical approach to innovation in the public sector, in general, and about innovation in the Family Health Strategy in particular. Practical contributions: The proposed framework allows a clearer understanding of what the elements that involve the dynamics of innovation in the FHS are and how they behave, guiding managers and formulators of public health policies regarding the improvement of innovative processes.
