Purpose: this research aims to describe the learning styles of medical residents who work in two health organizations in the city of Porto Alegre/RS. Methodology: to identify learning styles, questionnaires were applied based on the theory of Felder and Silverman (1988). Thus, it seeks to characterize the preferences or domains, arranged in the inventory of learning styles (active/reflective; sensory/intuitive; visual/verbal; sequential/global) with 117 medical residents of two hospitals. Thus, there is a descriptive quantitative research, using SPSS for data analysis. Results: indicate preferences in learning styles between domains (sensitive and visual) and that there are significant relationships by gender and institution (public or private). Contributions: the analyzes of the learning preferences of the two institutions allow the theoretical and practical proposition of ways of adopting different methods that best adapt to the styles of the resident physicians.
