THE WORK DIGNIFIES THE MAN, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE WOMAN? LAUGHTER ON THE FEMINIST PRESS OF THE SOUTHERN CONE

Abstract

The laughter has caused frequent debates due to its politically ‘incorrect’ character, which theoretically works as a disqualification of something or someone. Although this perspective is broadly spread, feminist journals of the Southern Cone, published on the second half of 20th century, made extensive use of this tool through cartoons and comic strips, addressing lots of feminist issues. Among the most relevant and recurring themes, we quote housework, topic which until today brings series of debates that make the core of feminist issues. Therefore, we purpose to analyze cartoons and comic strips to observe how the laughter was appropriated as a subversive gesture on the reflections about housework in the Southern Cone countries, a region in which the topic was a constant concern.
