GENDER AND INTERETHNIC RELATIONSHIPS IN BRAZIL, BY THE FEMINIST GERMAN JOURNALIST WITH MORE PUBLICATIONS IN “FREIDENKER”, NEWSPAPER OF GERMAN FREE THINKERS OF THE 19TH CENTURY

Abstract

With the American feminist journal Freidenker, the German feminists of the 19th century attempted to create a dialogue between the feminist movements in the Old World and the New. At the forefront of the journal stood the feminist Julie Engell-Gunther, who worked in the education of Brazil’s elites when she came to the country, and who penned the most articles for Freidenker newspaper. “What are the local and global relationships of this journalist of the 19th century?” and “What issues implicit gender and race?” are central questions of this article, constructed studies from Eva Schock-Quinteros, from the department of modern and contemporary history at the University of Bremen. In the literature review, there are authors from postcolonial theory, as Aníbal Quijano; Chandra Mohanty; Rita Laura Segato and María Lugones.
