Abstract

A series of events, which became known as “Arab Spring”, shook the political status quo of many countries from the Arab world. One of the aspects most focused by the media was the political participation by women in those revolutions, revolts, and demonstrations, something that caused great surprise. The aims of this article are to explore the view that the West usually has regarding Muslim women, and to make known real episodes of female political participation in different Islamic countries in recent History.
