GENDER, BODY AND SEXUALITY IN GYNECOLOGICAL CARE

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze different aspects of the experiences of women in relation to gynecological services. Specifically we want to: a) describe and analyze the patient-doctor / to be deployed in the field of gynecology with spe¬cial attention to issues related the body, gender and sexuality and b) analyze the reasons and dimensions assessed in the election the / those skilled also in relation to the dimensions mentioned above. The results presented here are part of a larger research project whose objective was to describe and analyze what they think and what the practices of patients and health professionals in relation to autonomy and the specific limits that define a patient as such. This had formed a group of chronic patients (people living with HIV and people in palliative care) and a group of “healthy” women attending a gynecology. The research design was a descriptive-exploratory and qualitative methodology was used for the collection and analysis of data. The main results indicated that the body and sexuality play an important role in the selection of gy¬necologist and gender stereotypes assigned will define whether a male or a female professional (in accordance with the expectation of emotional support or technical knowledge) would be the basis for defining confidence, that what make the relation between patients and doctors.
