The myth such as an element for the knowledge and practices reproduction of female artisanal fishing in a community on the Amazon.

Abstract

The aimed article discusses the myth such as an element that regulates and conforms to the reproduction of the female artisanal fishing activity in the Segredinho community in Capanema, in the northeast of Pará. The research question that was conducted in this study was: how is the relationship between myth and female artisanal fishing in the Segredinho community? Therefore, we chose qualitative research as it involves understanding and reflections about the object of study. Thus, we used as instruments the participant observation and the semi-structured interview carried out with 06 fisherwomen directly linked to artisanal fishing in that community. It was noticed that the belief in the local myth regulates and conforms to productive activities related to female fishing and conditions the fisherwomen to carry out conservationist practices in the use of resources that are extracted from the Segredo Lake. The reason for this is both the perception of the resources as fundamental for their survival and for the maintenance of fishing as a cultural heritage for the new generations.
