Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourses about the social role of women in the 1930s, in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, south of Espírito Santo, Brazil. Furthermore, it aims to address violence against women from that place in this period. The sources used were criminal data. It was possible to find related characteristics to the condition of women in the early decades of the twentieth century, as well as the main reasons for violence against cachoeirense women.
