Abstract

This paper presents an interdisciplinary research we performed within methodological support by Digital Ethnography. Our investigation aimed to bring light to the presence of Lilith in an assortment of sociocultural productions located in digital environments. We adopt a Bakhtinian perspective to discuss the interface amongst subjects, language and society. Lilith is a myth that has been appropriated throughout centuries as an archetype in multiple discursive contexts. Our results suggest that contemporary utterances that resort to Lilith constitute active replies given by enunciators to the representations of the myth. Such replies contribute to dislodge the mythic figure from sacred to profane discursive contexts. Although Lilith is resignified in contemporary utterances, it is still used to recall roles previously occupied by the myth. We find theoretical foundations in discussions from the Cultural Studies, philosophy and anthropology. We hope our results may contribute to the study of women’s social identity constructions.
