The present work aims to present theoretical and methodological elements identified in different international revised studies on traditional agricultural knowledge by women. In this sense, it reflects on how science has made such knowledge invisible, pointing out the elements that are left out in the investigations on biodiversity and traditional knowledge. We also point out aspects to be taken into account in the construction of a research project that stresses the knowledge of women, enabling stronger visibility to gender relations. We seek to highlight the fact that doing research and scientific production blind to gender relations can contribute to accelerating the erosion of women’s traditional knowledge and, with that, cause the weakening of traditional communities as a whole, putting in danger food sovereignty, food security and cultural diversity.
