Abstract

The article reflects on some strategies for researching with children based on an ethnography carried out in Praia, capital of Cape Verde between 2019 and 2020. Based on the failure of more common techniques, such as drawing, I chose to accept the children's invitation to walk with them around the neighborhood where they live. In this way, I was able to understand how they develop their social relationships, interact with adults and reinforce their daily role in maintaining the solidarity relationships that are so essential for the well-being of residents. Exploring premises of being a child in Cape Verde, I draw up a map that illustrates how the knowledge we produce is related to the child's personal trajectory. To do so, I carry out a case study from one of my main interlocutors, an eight-year-old boy called Miguel.
