Abstract

This article reviews how the field of ethnomusicology was formed in Mexico and the epistemological paths it is currently taking, linked both to new academic approaches and to the political circumstances of a time that is assumed to be of great national transformation. It originates from the invitation to reflect on this topic at the opening conference of the IX Conference of Ethnomusicology, VII Amazon Colloquium of Ethnomusicology and IV Northern Regional Meeting of the Brazilian Association of Ethnomusicology, which took place in Belém, Pará, Brazil, in August 2022.
