Abstract

ABSTRACT:

The debate presented follows the path of the relationship between cultural rights, specifically gender rights, and human rights at the Festa dos Tabuleiros, Tomar, Portugal. A gender problem arises insofar as the ritual is characterized by a marked difference and opposition in the two main ritual roles of the festival. The focus of the reflection is to think about the participation of women and men, using ethnographic research and considering the legal apparatus produced by UNESCO to safeguard intangible heritage, in contrast to gender theories, in which gender is reflected without essentialism and in terms of reiterative performance. A counterpoint is also created between the meaning of ritual and everyday action in relation to the issue of gender.
