Abstract

This article describes the methodology of a master’s research in Social Anthropology on the use of Amazonian biodiversity products for affective and sexual purposes in Abaetetuba (Pará, Brazil). Based on the notion of Amazonian cosmoerotism - understood as a set of practices that mobilize plants, animals, and substances to activate desires, bonds, and sexual performances through spiritual mediation and traditional knowledge - I analyze how perfumes, baths, and charms operate within gender relations, agency, and affective domination. The ethnography reveals the dynamics among merchants, mediums, and clients, and discusses the ethical and methodological challenges of accessing networks marked by secrecy, negotiation, and intimacy.
