This article summarizes qualitative and quantitative criteria for evaluating journals identified in models proposed in the literature as an alternative to the exclusive use of citation indexes, a practice not recommended for journals in all areas of knowledge. In developing the study, six dimensions are proposed for categorizing the criteria listed in the nineteen models analyzed, the most recurrent criteria in each of the established dimensions are identified and, considering that in this context the greatest difficulty lies in defining indicators for evaluating these criteria, indicators are suggested for evaluating the most used criteria.
