- Leadership as an essential competence of the librarian manager

Leadership is an indispensable skill in organizations and the librarian, in his role as a people manager, plays a similar role in informational environments, and there is a need for a greater understanding of this skill. To this end, the objective of this research was to identify in the literature the leadership characteristics that can be adopted by the librarian manager, highlighting the importance of this skill in his professional performance. The exploratory, descriptive and analytical qualitative methodology was carried out through a bibliographical research, bringing together publications from library science and areas that discuss leadership in organizations to identify the common characteristics mentioned by the authors. As a result, among the characteristics most addressed by the authors are communication, creativity, knowledge, interpersonal skills and motivation. There was also greater participation of the characteristics addressed by two authors, highlighting the diversity in leadership for the performance of the librarian manager. It is concluded that leadership is an essential skill for organizations, and it is up to the librarian manager to develop such characteristics and apply them in informational environments, aiming for good results in the team and in the organization, in addition to obtaining a prominent place in their training as a professional.
