Abstract

This study addresses the use of playful activities in school libraries as a way to encourage reading among early childhood education students, that is, children up to age 5. The research aims to demonstrate the importance of games and play as a tool to promote reading in school libraries that serve early childhood education. Descriptive and exploratory in nature, with a qualitative approach, the study is based on a combination of a literature review and a descriptive analysis of practical experiences. The results show that promoting reading through playfulness can help children see reading as attractive and enjoyable, highlighting the importance of the school library and the librarian as mediators in this process. Therefore, it is believed that the school library can be a favorable space for activities that include games and play that encourage reading, word construction, syllable identification, among other skills and abilities.
