Abstract

This article presents an experience report from the University, Prison, and Community Dialogue Group (GDUCC), developed at the Women's Detention Center (CDF) in Manaus, Amazonas, under the coordination of the Judicial School of the Court of Justice of Amazonas and the League of Justice Interns. The proposal is based on critical criminology, with an emphasis on the labeling approach, hidden numbers, and penal selectivity, to analyze the symbolic and practical effects of labeling women deprived of liberty. The methodology used is bibliographic, with qualitative data analysis, complemented by reports of activities carried out with the inmates, whose experience revealed that female incarceration goes beyond legal and statistical aspects, involving social markers such as gender, race, and class. The group dynamics allowed for the identification of institutional dehumanization and the recovery of subjectivities erased by the penal system, reinforcing the importance of humanizing and horizontal practices in confronting structural violence. It is concluded that GDUCC's work enables the construction of emancipatory narratives and the strengthening of critical and transformative listening.
