Going through the understanding of the fundamental presence of art and beauty as categories that pass on values, traditions, establish contact with the sacred and demarcate the culture of the Yoruba people. This article intends to analyze a cut of the presence of scarification in the pre and post colonial period through a comparative analysis of selected cases. These being identified by works of art and by the presence in the Yoruba physical body. Considering the scarifications as artistic productions that not only adorn sculptural works but also make the body its own canvas, thus reinforcing the itanlogy that refers to the human being as the first artistic creation, present in the research of the Yoruba art historian Babatunde Lawal and Naiara Paula Eugenio. Through this research, the importance of markings in their materiality and spirituality, belonging to the community and the challenges facing the colonial world of the survival of the practice that exposes ancestral identity will be observed.
