Abstract

Objective: To create a classification of gestational risk based on the guidelines of the Ministry of Health (MS) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and analyze the agreement between them and the knowledge of the puerperal woman about her risk classification. Material and Methods: a cross-sectional study with postpartum women from Espírito Santo. The classifications of gestational risk were based on the MS and PAHO methods and self-report of the puerperal woman. Descriptive statistics were performed and the levels of agreement were verified. Results: factors that most contributed to the gestational risk were: inadequate and very inadequate weight gain (67.1%) and uterine surgery (49.8%). 66.4% were classified as high risk by the Ministry of Health, 74.6% by PAHO and 11.2% self-reported. The agreement between the classifications varied between moderate and poor. Conclusions: There is a need for a qualified and operational instrument that allows the classification of gestational risk.
