This article aims to analyze the short story “In the shade of the poppy”. This narrative was published by Amazonian writer Astrid Cabral in the book Alameda, which was published in 1963. This article analyzes the relationship between the “me” and the “other” from the initial characterization of the characters by the narrator and the other character. In a second moment, showing up as an event common to them opens space for solidarity. The theory used will be Jean-Paul Sartre's philosophy on Being and Nothingness.
