Abstract

Clarice Lispector performed the translator function among others, parallel to those of writer and journalist. Although she has been one of the most studied Brazilian writers at present, it is remarkable the lack of academic papers about her work as a translator. Thus, this study aims to contribute to the topic by presenting the route of Clarice Lispector as a translator of children’s literature, mentioning specificities of the translation of the genre in question, as well as aspects related to the translator’s voice and a short corpus analysis. This work supports the assumptions of translator's voice and discursive presence of the translator, Baker (2000), Hermans (1996 a / b), O'Sullivan (2006) and Schiavi (1996) and corpus based studies (Baker, 1993; 1995; 1996; 1999). The corpus that will serve as support to discuss the discursive presence of the translator/ translator’s voice consists of the works "The call of the wild / O chamado selvagem" by Jack London and "Gulliver's travels / Viagens de Gulliver", by Jonathan Swift in the language pair English / Portuguese.
