Tradução e tecnologia: o uso de corpora e de recursos terminológicos on-line

Abstract

The use of new technologies resized the task of the translator, transformed translation practice and positively influenced the translation process and product. We can no longer set apart the work of the translator or the teaching of translation from these new tools. In this paper, we seek to show the benefits of new technologies and online resources both for teaching translation in translator training programs and for the professional translator’s practice. Initially, we present the principles of Corpus Linguistics in relation to the practice of translation, whether in the professional field and in the academia. In the professional field, we point out the contribution of corpora to improve the quality of a translation. In the academic field, we highlight the research possibilities brought about by several types of corpora, both comparable and parallel. Next we discuss the role of online terminology resources - dictionaries and glossaries - highlighting the features of these works and the criteria to select appropriate and reliable reference works to ensure higher translation quality.
