Abstract

This article aims at discussing the image of America constructed during the fascist regime by some translators and writers. It is a relationship that unites the two areas of Translation Studies and Comparative Literature. Translation can be seen as a process of rewriting, and as such, external factors may interact as ideology, culture and many others. In this sense, the intense activity Cesare Pavese had as a translator of American writers provided him with a mythical image of America which in fact can be seen as an antItália. KEY WORDS: Translation Studies, literary translation, Comparative Literature, fascism, Cesare Pavese.
