The Aesthetic Representation of a Late Modernism in the Cordel Epic Guriatã

Abstract

This work discusses the relevance of the book “Guriatã” as a literary manifestation of a late Modernism. The intention is to demonstrate how this narrative resignifies the literary inventiveness discourses, present in the manifestos “Pau Brasil” and “Antropofágico”manifest incorporating them into a texture, created by the intersection of popular and erudite language, a predominant formal characteristic in the work by Marcus Accioly, an author historically known of the “Geração Pernambucana de 65”. Therefore, this work is based on the following themes and theories: Modernity (LIMA, 2003), traces and discourses of Modernism (ANDRADE, 1978), traces of the epic genre (SILVA; RAMALHO, 2007 and STAIGER, 1978), the relevance of the woodcut and narrative relationship in cordel (BARBOSA, 2010 and CHARTIER, 2OO2) and the relevance of thematic cycles (ACCIOLY; LEAL, 1980). All this theoretical framework serves as this work generative justification of this work, which is proving how “Guriatã” is characterized as an “epic Cordel”, whose structural composition is in accordance with an inventive discourse of Brazilian identity construction, silenced due to the permanent local emphasis on the Geração de 65. Furthermore, the article intends to contributet the poetic critical fortune of the writer and professor Marcus Accioly work, especially for the cordel “Guriatã”.
