THE INSTALLATION OF ETFRN / UNED-MOSSORÓ IN THE RECORDS OF THE MOSSOROENSE PRESS

Abstract

The use of press by means of its everyday records, become increasingly evident in the field of academic research. The newspaper articles come to be considered as historical sources, contributing to the analysis of certain period when being able to approach cultural, economic and social aspects. In this research, we present the records of two printed newspapers from the city of Mossoró-RN, O Mossoroense and Gazeta do Oeste, in which we found several articles about the implementation and functioning of Unidade de Ensino Descentralizada (UNED) of Escola Técnica Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (ETFRN). Some details are highlighted by the press: public tender to compose the team of employees, opening, courses, school, administrative and social activities; cultural practices, physical structure. The methodology we used consisted of a survey and analysis of the contents of these newspapers, placed in an institutional file. Our intention was to understand how the Mossoró press recorded the installation of UNED and followed the first moments of that institution of Professional Education. As a result, the written texts and the images presented in these newspapers highlight the relevance of this institution as they enable knowledge about the history and memory of federal Professional Education in Rio Grande do Norte.
