LGBTfobia: uma categoria em construção

Abstract

This article investigates how the category of LGBTphobia has been mobilized in recent Brazilian academic production, with special attention to its disputes, shifts, and tensions in relation to the more consolidated concept of homophobia. Based on a literature review and a mapping of dissertations, theses, and articles published in the CAPES, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases, the study analyzes the use of LGBTphobia within the fields of human sciences, social sciences, and law, reflecting on its consolidation, limits, and ambiguities. Although homophobia still predominates in scientific literature, an increase in the use of LGBTphobia as a critical category is observed, seeking to encompass the diversity of violences experienced by LGBT+ individuals. However, the analysis also highlights the persistence of silences, such as the low number of studies on lesbophobia, and the reproduction of gender and sexuality hierarchies within the academic field itself. Aiming to challenge traditional readings, the article proposes a reflection on the need for a more intersectional and political perspective on LGBTphobic violence, understanding it as a structuring phenomenon of social relations rather than merely an individual aversion. By tracing the trajectory of homophobia and following the emergence of LGBTphobia, this study seeks to contribute to a critical understanding of the conceptual disputes that shape the struggle for recognition and justice in contemporary Brazil.
