Abstract

This work analyzes sociologically the media agenda setting on violence against women in journalism. Therefore, its locus investigation consists of three relevant social and mediatic events included in the debate about gender-based violence in newspapers from Paraiba, which are, the murder of the students Maria Cristina Batista da Silva (1990) and Marcia Barbosa (1998). Through this investigation process of the social production of news, we gradually realize how gender social representations are built in the mediatic discourse.
