This article aims to discuss social representation and cultural identity, having as corpus the northeastern regionalist novel “O boqueirão”, taking as a starting point for the analysis the initial dialogue between the two male characters, who appear as social representations of a people: Remo Fernandes, embodying the sertanejo, who is influenced by a new culture and who lives in a contradictory process of adaptation and Frank White, who represents the people and the North American soul. In the theoretical aspect, our conversation will be supported by Moscovici (1961); Ortiz (1994); Deleuze and Guattari (1995); Setton (2002); Jodelet (2002); Giddens (2002); Bauman (2005); Bhabha (2013); Candido et. al. (2014). To endorse the issue of social representation present in the novel by José Américo de Almeida, we will make an explanation about the Theory of Social Representations and the Theory of Habitus and Identities.
