Mask and face: a playful pair (Approaching the “frevo” "Cara a cara ")

Abstract

Carnaval songs, especially “frevos” and “marchinhas”, are usually takens as easy-to-learn pieces, in which musical and literary detailed preparation are exempted. This brief article intends to discuss the song “Cara a cara” (Face to face), by Caetano Veloso, and some of its elaborated semiotic elements, having as our theoretical support Bakhtin’s formulations on Carnival as well as some guiding principles of concrete poetry.
