BETWEEN TRAGEDY AND THE TRAGIC

María Zambrano’s understanding of tragedy and the tragic is, rather than merely idiosyncratic, profoundly revealing of the radical nature of her thought, insofar as it connects questions concerning being and time – issues central to philosophical inquiry – through a singular and original poetic resolution. Such a perspective elevates the Spanish poet and philosopher to one of the most compelling and prominent figures of the twentieth century. In this article, we seek to trace a path through time in order to illuminate, albeit modestly, questions related to being and time, taking Antigone as our companion. In other words, our analysis of these dimensions is centered on the poetics of tragedy and the philosophy of the tragic. Through this classical character, it becomes possible to apprehend temporal dimensions according to Zambranian phenomenology, which analogically guide us toward a possible interpretation of the human condition. The poetic resolution conceived for this analogy, in turn, reveals the creative dream.
