Alba Valdez, an avant-garde female intellectual from Ceará, emerged as one of the most prominent voices in the fight for women’s rights in the 19th and 20th centuries contexts. Her struggles, combined with her profuse literary contribution in more misogynistic times in the Brazilian Northeastern cultural scene, resulted in disapproval from her male peers and the subsequent obfuscation of her figure and importance. However, with the tireless and constant battles for female rights equality and freedom, her name has been brought to light, from the basements of oblivion where she had been, and inspiring new achievements in the field of feminism and Literature Produced by Women. Based on basic theorists such as Carvalho (2008), Duarte (2018) and Souza (2021), we analyze Alba Valdez in this article focusing on her transgressions in favor of freedom and equal rights for her peers. We conclude that studying her is increasingly necessary, especially in times of violent intolerance towards the feminine element, such as what we unfortunately experience today.
