The object of analysis of this study is the phenomenon of fanaticism in its contemporary specificity. We intend to go beyond the strictly psychological readings of the problem. Instead, we understand the phenomenon as a social symptom resulting from a long process of damage, illness and, finally, the emptying of the subjects. In other words, fanaticism is not self-explanatory and cannot even be explained from merely psychological elements. Revealing the social structure that makes possible the emergence of fanaticism in its contemporary specificity is, ultimately, the aim of this article.
