On the ants’ trail: the eruption of rage in the literary and filmic narrativities of A Cup of Rage/Um Copo de Cólera

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the narrativity process of the literary work Um Copo de Cólera (1976), by the Brazilian writer Raduan Nassar, and the film entitled on the same way, directed by the filmmaker Aluízio Abranches (1999). In this discussion, we try to emphasize the interfaces of the narrativity of the literary and cinematographic work, especially the elements that produce the rhythm and sense of narrative, presenting some of the resources used in this process of transposition of languages. For this purpose, the investigation - of a bibliographic and exploratory-descriptive character – begins by tracing a theoretical course that encompasses the concepts of intersemiotic translation, by Júlio Plaza; of narrativity, by Brian McFarlane; and Bakhtin and Kristeva's intertextual dialogism. Next, it intends to investigate the sequence of scenes, the rhythm of the language, the central metaphors and the intertextual discourses in order to show the rhythm of the narrativity that, in turn, triggers the anger proposed in the works under analysis.
