Abstract

Over the past ten years, several advances have been made in the field of education for persons deprived of their liberty, including the elaboration of the  Diretrizes Nacionais para a oferta de Educação de Jovens e Adultos em situação de privação de liberdade nos estabelecimentos penais (CNE/2010), redemption by study (2012) and redemption by reading (2015). The focus of these advances has been the education of people deprived of their liberty.

Author Biographies

Timothy Denis Ireland, Universidade Federal da Paraíba

Professor at the Federal University of Paraíba. Graduated in English Language and Literature from the Universidade de Edimburgo (1971), Master in Adult Education - University of Manchester (1978) and PhD in Adult Education - University of Manchester (1988). He is currently professor of postgraduate programs in education (PPGE) and in Direitos Humanos, Cidadania e Políticas Públicas (PPGDH) and coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Youth and Adult Education. He has experience in Education, with an emphasis on Adult Education, working mainly on the following themes: public policies for youth and adult education, international policies for lifelong learning and education, prison education, youth and adult literacy, popular education and south-south cooperation.

Inês Assunção de Castro Teixeira, Universidade Federal da Paraíba

Bachelor and Degree in Social Sciences from UFMG (1973); Master in Education from UFMG (1992) and PhD in Education from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in 1998; completed her Postdoctoral I at the Universidade de Barcelona in 2005 and Postdoctoral II at the Metropolitan Autonomous University of Mexico and at FE / USP in 2014. She is a Full Professor (retired) at the Faculty of Education at UFMG and a retired professor at PUC Minas . She is a research professor at the Mutum Group: Education, Teaching and Cinema. Participates in the Affirmative Actions Program at UFMG and in Scientific Committees of Magazines, Events and Associations. She dedicates herself to the training of teachers and new researchers in the field of human and social sciences as a supervisor of monographs, scientific initiation, master's and doctorate. In undergraduate and graduate courses. She has been a researcher at CNPq for several years, through a research productivity grant. Visiting Professor at the Federal University of Paraíba (Education Center).
