Abstract

The oral tradition, relayed by several generations, is strongly present in collective memory and in Brazilian culture. However, this oral wisdom of legends and myths is rarely addressed in the classroom. Thereby, this work aims to present the contributions of local myths and legends from the city of Lucena - Paraíba, in the teaching of EJA (Youth and Adult Education) in Portuguese Language classes for the improvement of communicative skills and competencies. The methodology focuses on qualitative research through the experience report of deductive bias and qualitative analysis. It is extremely important to introduce the orality of local myths and legends into the classroom, as it will become an instrument for including oral tradition in the school environment. In the light of authors such as Ecléa Bosi (1994), Maurice Halbwachs (1990), and Thierry Jeantet (1986), among others, will be fostered in this work.
