Abstract

This study has as background the context of contemporary society, which imposes on researchers investigating classification in archives the need to expand the understanding of the constituent elements of records to meet the legal demands brought about by the right of access to information and need to protect personal data. Added to this scenario are the multiple contexts brought about by the use of digital environments and systems for the production, control, organization, classification, representation, preservation, recovery and access to the information contained in the records. In this panorama, we present the partial results of a doctoral research that aims to develop a Knowledge Organization System for Archival Classification, so that it is possible to guarantee the permanence of the context of document production over time and space. To this end, exploratory research is underway, with qualitative analysis of document corpus and bibliographic review, based on domain analysis as a methodological resource, to answer the following question: how to develop classification systems capable of representing, controlling, maintaining and ensure the meaning of archival documents in their production contexts? Two informational possibilities - context and content - are used as a perspective for understanding the constituent elements of archival documents. Furthermore, the concept of guarantee crosses the research and meets the context of document production to propose the Guarantee of the Archival Context as a fundamental criterion for the elaboration of a proposal for a Knowledge Organization System for Archival Classification.
