Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The author(s) of the text must have at least the academic status of a master's student. In this case, only one co-authored submission with their supervisor will be allowed.
- For those with a master's degree, doctoral students, and PhD holders, an individually authored text may be submitted.
- In the case of collective authorship, only up to 3 (three) co-authors will be accepted in a submitted text. All co-authors must be indicated at the time of submission.
- The submitted text is written in one of the languages accepted by Benjaminiana: Portuguese, Spanish, English, German, and occasionally French.
- For articles, the text must be unpublished in the chosen language of submission and contain between 10,000 and 15,000 words, including abstracts, keywords, tables, figures, image captions, and footnotes.
- For reviews, the text must be unpublished in the chosen language of submission, deal with a work published in Brazil or abroad in the last 3 (three) years, and contain between 4,000 and 6,000 words, including tables, figures, image captions, and footnotes.
- For interviews, the text must be unpublished in the chosen language of submission and contain between 10,000 and 15,000 words, including tables, figures, image captions, and footnotes.
- Texts in Portuguese must provide 2 (two) abstracts, one in Portuguese and the other in English, each with a length of 200 to 250 words, along with 3 (three) to 5 (five) keywords, in the same languages as the abstracts. For other accepted languages, an abstract in the original language of the submitted text and another in Portuguese must be provided (does not apply to reviews and interviews).
- The text must MANDATORILY contain sections corresponding to 'Introduction' and 'Conclusion,' which may be titled with expressions of similar meaning according to the personal writing style of the author(s).
- Tables and/or figures should be inserted into the text with legible characters, numbered sequentially in Roman numerals, and cited/commented on in the body of the text, preferably close to that section, with the source of the information immediately below, centred. - Images and/or graphic elements must be presented within the text in JPG or PNG format, in high resolution (minimum of 300 dpi), numbered, and accompanied by respective captions. The illustration should be cited in the text and inserted as close as possible to the passage to which it refers. For examples of illustrations and caption insertion, click here.
- When relevant, articles should include a footnote appended to the title, explicitly stating the funding received for the research that led to the text. Both the funding agency/institution and the grant number should be provided. This note can be included when the text is approved for publication so as not to compromise the double-blind peer review process. For submission, simply add a note with the text "Work resulting from research funding," which should be replaced with complete information by the author(s) after the review process.
- All mentions that could indicate the authorship of the submission, either directly or indirectly, should be removed from the body of the text and from the file properties submitted to the OJS/SEER system.
- The text should be submitted in a Word document file, in its latest version (extension docx);
- Quotes of less than 3 (three) lines should be incorporated, in quotation marks, directly into the text, and those exceeding this limit should be indented by 4 cm on the left, without quotation marks.
- All citations should be referenced in footnotes. Benjaminiana does not publish bibliographies or other types of references at the end of articles, reviews, or interviews.
- Foreign language quotations must be properly translated into the language of the submitted text.
- Italics should be limited to foreign words and work titles; bold should not be used in the text (except for titles and subtitles) nor in notes; underlining should be avoided except in Internet addresses (URLs).
- Subtitles SHOULD NOT be numbered.
- A period of 2 (two) years must be observed between submissions by the same author, in case their previous manuscript was accepted and published.
- Each author must provide, at the time of submission, their academic qualifications, current role, the institution and/or department to which they are affiliated, their contact email (preferably institutional), and their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID).
