Abstract

Legislative Studies constitute an important research field in Brazilian Political Science. This paper aims to present a brief synthesis of the main approaches to Brazilian Legislative power, starting from “pessimistic” analyzes on the ability of presidentialism to generate a minimally stable democratic system, moving to analyses that focus on the role of coalitions in maintaining this system. Despite the growth of scientific publications on Brazilian Legislative power, some elements still require further systematization; therefore, this article concludes by presenting priorities for research in this area and a synthesis of the articles that make-up the following dossier
