Culture and political resistance in the Nova Cançó
Abstract
This article proposes a discussion on the musical movement known as Nova Cançó (The New Song in Catalan), which was articulated on the basis of the struggle against the Francoist dictatorship by affirming the Catalan linguistic and cultural identity, as well as the Catalan autonomy from the Spanish Kingdom. Due to its relevance in the country, this musical movement faced significant political persecution and censorship by the Francoist regime, not only in relation to the works of its composers but also in relation to the shows and the performance of their songs in the media. For addressing this topic, this text uses a wide range of sources, such as discography, bibliography and a vast and unpublished documentation of the Spanish discographic censorship. Keywords: Nova Cançó; Discographic Censorship; Francoist; Culture.Downloads
