Abstract

This text points out the sociocultural reflection on female gender in Virginia Woolf’s The Lady in the Looking-Glass: a Reflection. We observe that based on pre-established social concepts, several and different identity images are given to its protagonist, Isabella Tyson. Those images are reflected by the mirror fixed on her drawing-room; limited by the mirror frame, they can show off only a little part of protagonist’s universe, feeling and personality. As soon as she reveals her entire figure, we conclude that female identity is more than a mere reflected image.
