THE INFLUENCE OF ECONOMIC CRISES, DURING THE 80´S AND 90´S, IN BRAZIL, ON THE LABOUR MARKET FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS

Abstract

This paper analyses the Brazilian labor market during the economical crises, in the 1980´s and 1990´s, both to evaluate how information sciences professionals, specifically those in the information technologies, were affected by these crises as well as well as to make some predictions about what the perspectives of these professionals in labor market are . It was observed that the economical crises affected not only these workers, but also workers from different areas. In this article it is concluded that not even the information professionals whose salaries are quite higher than other workers in Brazil, were immune to the impact of such crises. However, if the Brazilian economy begins increasing again and if the State elaborates public policies that promote ways to the population to have access to the Information Technologies, there may be a very promising perspective of improving the insertion of the Information Professionals in the Brazilian labor market.
