Abstract

This research was carried out under greenhouse conditions with the purpose to study the effects of salinity on growth and development of basil plants (Ocimum minimum L). Plastic recipients were used with artificially salinised soil, using 2N solution of NaCl with four levels of salinity (0.11, 0.42, 0.73 and 0.96 dS/m) with four replications, adopting a completely randomised experimental design. The results showed that for dry weight of aerial part and the roots of the plants decrease occurred as salinity increased. The levels of electric conductivity (0.42, 0.73 and 0.96 dS/m) affected significantly the growth and the flowers production of the plants.
