In the disputes ofhegemony, popular education runs counter to that which is dominant, since it stimulates the criticality, dialogue, awareness and praxis of historical subjects. In this work, we make a brief historical rescue of the relationship between Popular Education and Social Work and present the final results of the pibic/Cnpq project entitled: The State of Art on Popular Education in the Post-Graduation of Paraíba: Social Workand Education (1980 -2016), inwhich we carried out a survey of the dissertations and theses from Paraíba that deal with popular education in the areas of Social Work and Education and the intersection of these productions from 1980 to 2016. Methodologically, it is a research of the exploratory and bibliographic type, whose form of approach is qualitativeand quantitative, based on the critical theoretical framework. We carried out a “state of art”study, making a survey about the dissertations and theses of Stricto SensuPost-Graduations in Education and Social Work of the state of Paraíba that deal with popular educationtheme, using as main sources of data collection the portal of the Brazilian Digital Library of theses and dissertations and the thesis bank of the CAPES portal, researches in virtual libraries and post-graduation sites in question, as well as the final report of scientific initiation (PIBIC/CNPq), 2011-2012,by Juberlândia Mamede Bezerra Chaves, entitled "The State of Art on Popular Education in thePost-Graduation of Paraíba: Social Work and Education (1980-2010)". The results of the research revealed a total of 128 productions, being 99% of the Education area, demonstrating how the production of knowledge onpopular education in the area of Social Work of Paraíbahas been incipient. We also identify that among the analyzed productions, 84% adopt a critical theoretical-methodological framework, which reaffirms that popular education as a critical target has much to add in the practice of Social Work.
