ETHICAL CONDUCT

Ethical Principles and Procedures for Good Practices in Scientific Research Followed by RTE

The Revista Temas em Educação follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which can be found at http://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines and the Asociación Británica de Investigación Educativa [BERA] ( 2019) Ethical Guide for Educational Research found at https://www.bera.ac.uk/publication/guia-etica-para-lainvestigacion-educativa

Authors' responsibility

Respect for anyone is the ethical principle that guides scientific research and, consequently, the publication of its findings. It is emphasized that people should be treated fairly, with dignity, sensitivity and unconditional recognition of differences.

Authors who wish to publish in the RTE must commit to:

The contents of your texts, observing the copyright of images, videos and any textual or complementary elements.

The process of evaluating articles, free of charge, in the future.

The advancement of scientific research and the submission of your text in a single journal.

The offer of clarifications and or retractions for possible errors observed in the submitted manuscript.

The phases of the investigation, especially when they relate to issues of structural inequalities that can affect, mainly, issues related to “Race”, gender, LGBT + and economic issues.

The results of the research and the sharing of its findings with the participants involved considering the maximization of benefits and minimization of any risks.

The sending of an Ethics Committee's opinion, when the research presents real and unpredictable risks to the participants, especially when it affects directly or indirectly the people involved in person or through the use of data. It is the authors' responsibility to monitor changes in legislation regarding the use of digital data.

Responsibility to sponsors, clients and research stakeholders

Authors / researchers must register in their works the sponsors and participants of their studies when submitting and disseminating their results.

The evaluation process

Before sending the article for peer review, RTE submits the text to anti-plagiarism review, using the iThenticate tool.

The final decision on whether or not to publish a text is up to the publishers. Whenever a text has academic quality and meets the criteria established by the journal, it is sent for double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers. If there is a conflict of opinion, a third evaluator will be appointed. After the end of the evaluation, the manuscript that receives two favorable opinions for publication will be accepted. This assessment consists of the process of obtaining opinions from experts in the respective fields linked to national and international institutions.

The evaluators, when accessing the Evaluation Form, declare to have no conflict of interest.

It is emphasized that the opinions should highlight the texts or excerpts already published and that have not been properly cited.

- The opinions must be as objective as possible and sufficiently grounded to allow the improvement of the research and the text evaluated, according to the magazine's own form.

- The appraisal of the manuscript by the referees will consider: 1) coherence of the summary and presentation of the essential elements (objective, theoretical framework and / or methodological procedure, results, brief conclusions or considerations); 2) internal coherence of the work (in relation to the objective, theoretical framework and / or methodological procedure and results); 3) consistency of the title (according to the knowledge produced); 4) consistency of the educational knowledge produced (analytical depth, inferences and conclusive ideas); 5) scientific importance (meets the standards of scientific research); 6) originality (demonstrates advances in the area of Education) and 7) adequacy of writing to the cultured norm of the Portuguese language.

All evaluated articles are treated confidentially.

- Editors are not allowed to use information contained in the articles under review without the explicit consent of the authors.

- Editors are available to answer any ethical questions related to a submission.

Responsibility for publication and dissemination

All contents of the journal are submitted to peer review by the double-blind peer review method.

Publishers strive to avoid and prevent the publication of articles arising from inappropriate conduct during the development of the research. The care with the methodological procedures of the articles submitted seeks to protect the integrity and reputation of the investigation in order to guarantee the most rigorous quality standards in the publication.

When necessary, RTE publishes errata to correct articles and is willing to disclose clarifications, the right to respond and public retractions.
