About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Sæculum - Revista de História has been published by the Department of History of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) since 1995, and, since 2004, it has also been the journal of UFPB’s Graduate Program in History. With one issue per semester, Sæculum’s editorial line focuses on unpublished researches and on the debate in the field of History and Historical Culture in their many interfaces. By doing so, Sæculum fosters the dialog between researchers in Brazil and abroad.

Sæculum is indexed at Latindex, Google Scholar, EBSCO, ROAD, EZB and Diadorim.

Sæculum was originally published in print and, in 2011, adopted its digital format. As an open-access publication, all its content is available free of charge to the users and their institutions. Users are authorized to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of the articles, as well as use them for any other lawful purpose, without any need of previous authorization by their editor or their authors. These guidelines comply with BOAI’s definition of Open Access.

Sæculum has used the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) system since 2019.

Ethical guidelines

Sæculum is committed to the guidelines established by CNPq’s Commission of Integrity in Scientific Activities and to the ethics recommendations to authors, editors and reviewers by the Committee on Publication Ethics - COPE.

Article processing charges

This journal does not charge the authors for the submission and processing of manuscripts.

Peer review process

All submissions will be analyzed by the Editorial Committee, which will go through their content, their form, and the relevance of their subjects before forwarding them to the reviewers. Submissions that do not comply with the editorial guidelines will not be considered.

The manuscripts will then be blind analyzed by two PhD reviewers. The reviewers may be either members of the Consultant Board or ad hoc examiners. If the reviewers disagree with each other’s recommendations, the material will be sent to a third reviewer. This process is made on the Open Journal System (OJS) platform, which omits the names of the writers and the reviewers, preserving then the anonymity of all parties and the double-blind review.

Conflict of interest policy

When a manuscript is submitted, its authors must confirm the absence of any kind of conflict of interest in their works.

On the other hand, when reviewing the articles (step 2 - Reviewing Guidelines), the reviewers are notified that “should there be any kind of conflict of interest regarding the submission proposal, we request you to let the editorial committee know about your unavailability to perform the review”.

To learn more about conflicts of interest, access the Council of Science Editors’ Recommendations for promoting integrity in scientific journal publications.
