“A LOUÇA DO MEU USO, TANTO DA ÍNDIA COMO DE ESTANHO”: RUSTICIDADE COTIDIANA E REQUINTE OCASIONAL NAS MESAS DAS MINAS GERAIS SETECENTISTAS
Abstract
Based on a critical reading of probate records, the text introduces everyday things from the kitchens and dining tables of the 18th century inhabitants of Minas Gerais as social facts. The material elements of the nutritional culture of those living in this historic space allow us to reach conclusions about the colonial history of this Portuguese hinterland in the Americas that go beyond the kitchens, tables, and gardens. From the perspective of materiality, this history of nutrition proposed here is an interpretation of the language of the social act of eating, of the communications system that nutrition becomes when read as a complex and dynamic corpus of objects, images, manners, rituals, situations, and as a form of behavior.Downloads
