Abstract

This article intends to insert popular music into the trombone's repertoire. For that we chose a piece that the composer Ian Guest dedicated to the great trombonist Vittor Santos, and which was published in Guest's songbook (2019). The composition is called Trombone na Rua Tereza. First we situated the composer in his historical context and approached the main facts of his artistic biography. After this we executed a morphologic analysis as well as a harmonic analysis aiming at getting a deeper understanding about the piece. Lastly, we did some observations specifically about the tonality chosen by the composer and the honored instrumentalist.
